About the Book

Military novels tend to focus more closely on the soldier’s experience than those of the family and friends left at home. In this contemplative book, Pack sheds light on those often-forgotten stories, writing about several people who are parents and relatives of young men at war. Set in a Texas-Mexico border town at the beginning of the Gulf War, book will hit home for any military family member.

About the Author

Betty Pack, who has been a member of a military family for fifty years, is a retired high school English teacher and former prize-winning columnist for the (now defunct) San Antonio Light and for Stars & Stripes, European edition. Betty describes herself as a theologian “of arrested development” and lives in San Antonio, Texas with Bill, the “cute guy” she impulsively married a few years ago when she was a mere 67 and he, 83.
