Preview Bushbuckridge June 7 11:58 pm For centuries a myth was profound among the African people about a tale of a very scary creature which its creation remains ambiguous. It was a taboo to breathe a word or even talk about it. It is not clear where the myth originated but it has spread throughout the years. It is believed that the small and very fearful creature possesses magnificent power to destroy, kill and control. The description or appearance is frightening; words cannot capture the emotions of those who claimed to have seen it. The ancient legend has it that this creature operates at night and takes orders from their masters who are better known as people practicing witchcraft. The details about the creature and witches relate but little is known about the connection or relation. Some claim that it can be superstitions or myths created by our early ancestors. It was midnight when a young girl dressed in a white gown went outside in the dark, chilly winter evening. She had to use the rest room which was a few minutes away from the house. She did not want to bother or wake her older sister. Beside she was ten years old and wanted to prove to her parents that she was old enough to be independent. She lived in a very quiet village in Bushbuckridge located in the Limpopo province South Africa. The sky was very dark with few stars shining above. She walks slowly holding a small torch on her hand which brightens her foots steps. She gradually sings one of her favorite songs as she lifts the torch to face on the ground. She could hear voices or chatting from the bush which was not very far from her home. She stood for a minute and widens her ears, her eye balls grew wider as she tries to make sense of who could be out there. Despite the very noisy chatting she ignores it and continues with her journey. She was under the impression that it could be a church ceremony or a party going on somewhere. She continues to walk and ignores the chats which came from the bush. Leseja was her name; she sang one of her favorite gospel song. Although she was very conscious that there might be people in the bush and did not fear anything. She had worn a black and red necklace around her neck which was given to her by her grandmother. It had a significant meaning to her as it was a protective charm that will protect her from evil. However Leseja’s mother had varied and refused for her daughter to wear it because of their religious beliefs. But it was Leseja’s decision to wear it around her neck since this necklace had a special meaning to her. Beside her grandmother had passed on and the necklace was a reminder of her. As she continues to walk, she could hear a sound of an owl a night bird. According to tradition it was a taboo to see or hear an owl cry at night. It was believed an owl showed significant signs even though it was called a witch bird .She stands and looks around to investigate where the owl might be at. She flashes the torch light to the direction of the tree and could not see anything. She heard the bird again and the sound irritated her. She flashes the torch to the tree and was astonished to see a very massive white owl staring back at her. She also stares back and could not think of anything else but stared at the eyes which frightened her. The white owl sat on the tree and continued to make the noise. For some reason the owl flee away and left Leseja standing there very clueless. She again did not take into consideration. Lesage smiles and continues singing the song and walks forward ignoring the chatting and the owl she has seen a few seconds ago. She faces the torch on to her direction, it felt like a life time to get to the restroom but she knew she will get back to the house. When the torch light brightens the ground, she was shocked to see something standing right in her direction. She stood there as the hair at the back of her neck stood up, her heart beat increases and she froze in that moment. She became short of breath and could not even scream for help. As her eyes grew, she could only stare at the ugly short figure of what looked like a human but very hairy, the face was very wrinkle and hairy, the nose was very flat, with big lips. Although the face structure was human like there was nothing human about that thing, it opened its mouth to make a creepy sound; the eyes were very small and dreadful. Leseja could not look at the hairy monster or creature any more. She drops the torch on the ground and changes her direction. She was on her way to the house running in a speed she has never run. However, the unidentified scary creature jumps to her height and grabs the necklaces. It scratches her face and continues to make animals’ sounds. Leseja cries out as she tries to protect her face .The necklace made out of black and red beads were scatter on the ground.
