Amanda dropped her pencil (on purpose Joe thought) and they both leaned down to get it at the same time. He was close enough to kiss her, but didn't think this was the right place for their first kiss. Instead he placed his hand on top of hers as she picked up her pencil and gave her hand a squeeze.

17 year old Joe is forced to take up the role as the head of the household, when his dad gets injured, the company he works for goes bankrupt and they lose their home. Forced to live in tents, Joe must go to school, work and protect his family, by protecting their circumstances. Joe falls for the new girl, 15 year old Amanda, whose father has had her in boarding schools since she was 9, and is keeping family secrets from her as well. A tornado wrecks havic in the town and in their lives, in Twisted Hearts.
About the Author
I started writing poetry and short stories when I was in 4th grade. My middle school English teacher, Mr. Meyers, was very inspirational with getting his students to step out of the box when it came to writing stories. I grew up in Mt. Vernon, Iowa and now live in Cedar Rapids, Ia. I have been married 25 years to Kirk and we have two sons, Andrew 22 and Bryce 18. Kirk and I are now empty nesters, but have our two cats Kato and Jag to keep us company. Andrew and his wife Brandy also live in Cedar Rapids and blessed us with a beautiful granddaughter in May 2012, Aubrey Jean. Our son Bryce lives in Iowa City and attends the University of Iowa where he studying Liberal Arts.
