Nikki was shaking my shoulder saying, "Sammy wake up," when I opened my eyes again. I realized she was still going through with her plan and I needed to get up and help her. I got up out the bed ready to do what she needed me to do. She was fully dressed in jeans, a t-shirt, sneakers and a zipup hoodie. Her black duffle bag that she normally used in gym class was sitting on her bed. She grabbed my sheet off of my bed. Then she grabbed her sheet off of her bed and tied the two together in a knot. I grabbed one end of the tied sheets and pulled while she pulled on the other end to make sure the knot was tight. She took her end and tied it to the pole, then took my end a threw it out the window that had been open ever since she woke me up.

About the Book
Shhhh…..”Kept Quiet” is a story that details the life of a bright, yet confused urban girl whose life was destined for turmoil since birth. As she grows up in the poor and tough streets of southern Dallas, Tx., she struggles to understand her dysfunctional relationship with her grandmother, before learning a family secret that has brought acrimony to the family for years. This book highlights Black urban family life and paints a realistic picture of the trials and challenges of Southern Blacks as they struggle to maintain societal “norms” while dealing with family issues that threaten to destroy generations.
About the Author
Sami Martin was born and raised in Dallas, Tx., and resides there today. She currently works as a Laser Technician at a laser clinic in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Sami first discovered her love for writing in her favorite subject in high school, English. Her inspiration for writing her first book, “Kept Quiet” was for the entertainment of her readers and to expose the deep dark secrets of southern family life. Though she doesn’t have a degree in creative writing, she has a passion for writing attention getting stories with unexpected endings. She plans to continue writing fiction stories in the future.
