About the Author

In January 1991 a friend of mine, Susan Lower, who works for Roy Butler at the Wallis and Wallis Auction Galleries in Lewes, contacted me to tell me about some journals coming up in their next auction. The journals in question were those of Nurse Wilby Hart (ex-London Hospital). Susan knew I would be interested in these items as she was aware of my private collection of Royal memorabilia and of my background and family history in the East End of London, and in particular the Whitechapel area. It is my pleasure now to publish these journals in book form, to be sold at, and in aid of, the Royal London Hospital Museum, Whitechapel and the Museum of the Order of St John at St John Gate, Clerkenwell. I hope reading Nurse Wilby Hart’s journals will bring you as much enjoyment as they have given me.
