TEARS OF WAR A mother’s cry mixes with a bullet’s cackle In the bedlam that continues gripping the world A competition that the soul hardly relishes It shut its eyes and dies momentarily Her tears made profuse by endless thoughts of her son Lost in the stare of the conflicts’ bloody eyes Baptised in the river of the slain Lying innocent with a smile on his face A mother’s fiery defence can withstand a million guns By my breasts I swear that death shan’t feast On my remaining children The spindthrift bullet won’t make a bullet in their hearts But as we look back on her passing away Engendered by the blind hands of a passing bullet The songs of war we shall always sing Each time we smile at peace's confused face From Bosnia to Zimbabwe. HOPE ON HIGH SEAS The promise of a bright future Is carried on the sail winds of hope A mariner’s joy to seeing terra firma Is like a journey completed at the threshold Of destiny No easy sails at any length of time Ask the men who are self-made captains (It’s true that every man is his own captain) Hope is a rough sea endangered by waves Of fear But hard courage still all fearful doubts It calms every raging storm Hope is a treasure buried at the banks Of a billion seashores You could dig it up when you land ashore With golden sands underneath your steps Rekindle hope with a flint of breath Revive it with sparks of enthusiasm Like the silver scales of sea That you perceive when you’re so Far away Let your hope shine For heaven to notice. Providence will surely pinpoint the spot Where your treasure is interred

About the Book
The concept of Universal Soundbites hinges on the rapid almost electrifying globalisation that has engulfed and continues to engulf the world; the universality of human-ness; the interplay of ideologies; similar aspirations and the solid hope all humanity seeks. It is a book of Poems that gathers voices from around the globe; far and near; foreign and homegrown. Smith's latent ability to assume a carte blanche posture here lends credence to his belief that he is a universal Poet; a humanist literati that can revel in and lucidly capture themes that are of a Universal nature.
About the Author
I have university training and ever willing to showcase my creative side. Poetry has been a part and parcel of my life for the best part of 18 years now. I have read Poetry written by greats like Shakespeare, Arnold, Soyinka, Peters and Jibrail; greats whose masterpieces led to my own voice being conceived. Poetry is part and parcel of my; I live, breathe and walk poetry and I always cherish the opportunity to jot something down in Poetic form--whether it's personal or otherwise. I live in Freetown, Sierra Leone, where I work as a Radio broadcaster. I present my poetry programme every weekend. I have a 5 year old daughter. I'm currently a Law student at the University of Sierra Leone.
