About twenty miles outside of Camden Maine, an old farm house stood hidden and seemed untouched by civilization. The frozen pines covered all signs that the property was being occupied from the view of the road, which was good. Part of the reason I had chosen this place.
She was soaking wet in my arms, shivering convulsively; I had to get her warm. At the time I done everything to get to her as fast as I could, even going as far as to bite .that guardian when he tried to choke me—and that strangely did the trick. But I had no idea if I had been too late, but she was breathing, her heart beat strong, for now, and I held onto that for what comfort I could.
Shifting her to one arm, I sat her feet on the ground, her head falling onto my shoulder as I yanked a piece of oilcloth off the couch and laid her down. Assembling a catalogue of the place quickly, I ran outside to the small barn to gather wood, placed it into the fireplace in front of the couch, and began rubbing two pieces together. With a spark, they lit, and warmth flowed forth. Blankets, she needed blankets…I ran over to some cabinets all but tearing them from the wall trying to find the provisions I needed, until my hands landed on a pile of cloth.
I tossed the blankets at the foot of the couch and hesitated for a moment. She was soaking wet, she would have to get out of those clothes…if she didn’t, and she would never get warm, and surely die on me. I yanked her shoes off, tossing them across the room, and started peeling away the wet clothing.
Her head lay against my shoulder as I propped her against my chest to take off her heavy jacket and tight fitting long sleeved shirt, her breath warm on my neck. Her skin was cold, shockingly so that it sent a sick feeling to the bottom of my gut. Removing the last remits of clothing as fast as I could, I tugged the blanket over her, and tucking it around her shape.
I was running back and forth all across the house and yard. Outside I went to retrieve her backpack where I found more clothes. Without another moment to spare, I quickly dressed her with what I found. When she woke up, and I’d be damned if she didn’t, I didn’t want her to feel more embarrassed about this than she had to, than I was.
Racing to the middle of the house where I found a kitchen, I immediately searched for food, and I began to think of her, in a way that was far from appropriate for the time. Very much like a virus, the thoughts began to weave through my mind. Kitra’s near flawless skin, her narrow waist…and tempting smell.
I couldn’t be sure how long I had been standing in the kitchen when I heard a soft sigh come from behind me, snapping my mind free from the thought. Kitra stood in the archway between the kitchen and living room, smiling a sleepily smile. “You saved me…” she mused closing her eyes, her head pressing against the wall. “Oh!” she gasped falling towards the floor; I was there, staring into her eyes boldly with curiosity, before she touched the tile. “You shouldn’t be up walking around” I told her, knocking her from her feet into my arms. Her eyes blinked rapidly as her hands went around my neck for something to hold onto in her attempt to maintain some form of balance as I carried her to the couch. She rose up a little, putting her head against my shoulder weakly.
“Stay here” I started as I began to lay her down “I’ll find you something to eat.” I added trying to lift up, her arms tightening around my neck. “Don’t leave!” she whispered in sudden frightened voice. Allowing me to pull back slightly I looked into her eyes with a puzzled look. “I won’t…” I muttered, despite my better judgment my eyes looking at her lips. When I had been trying to get the water out of her lungs they had been so soft…
She lifted her head to mine and I relived the feel of them, the sound of her heart speeding up. It grew louder and louder as I broke the kiss and ran kisses along the hollow of her throat. Her scent, and that sound sent a weary feeling to the bottom of my stomach…almost painful. ‘One…two…three…’ I began counting the heartbeats in their frantic state. I opened my eyes to her throat, seeing faint traces of veins on her cold skin and leaned in for another kiss. The feeling in my gut began all but unbearable mixed with the urge to sink my teeth into something. My lips parted, and I sunk my teeth down teasingly into her ivory skin. Unbelievably the sound became louder, more uncoordinated, as the taste in my mouth coursed with copper. My eyes opened lazily and looked down to her throat and saw something red…a deep crimson running down it. I pulled back, my mouth and chin dripping wet….her blood…wet with her blood. I whispered her name cupping her cheek, her head falling to where mine had been, eyes open. The sound was gone.
With a loud pop from the fire, I bolted forwards. I looked around and saw the food I was ready to prepare for her when she woke up on the coffee table, and Kitra sound asleep, her breathing normal. I laid my head back against the recliner running my hands through my hair pitiably. ‘A God damned dream’ I thought with penitence. Rising up slightly, I heard a soft sigh and turned to Kitra, her eyes opened.
