About the Author
Tsitsi Gladys Madzongwe was born in Zimbabwe, Africa, and migrated to the United States of America during the early seventies. Her parents divorced when she was very young, and she was raised by her grandparents, dad and stepmother. Her inspiration to write poetry comes from her paternal grandmother, who would gather everyone by the fireside and recite stories each night after dinner, and her maternal grandfather, who was a school principal, and one of the first authors and television narrators in Zimbabwe. Her grandfather always said, “With our tongue and the written word we will prevail. Our lips are our own!” Tsitsi Gladys earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She is the founder and artistic director of Uthando Theater Productions Company. She has written four plays: Uthando, An African Renaissance Era Play; The Back-Slider; Murozvi: the Ancestor; and The Lost Coin.
