About the Author

Carol Shaw-Burns has eighteen years of professional experience in the field of gerontology/aging services, particularly in the areas of administration, marketing, and recreational therapy for the elderly. As a licensed nursing home administrator, Carol feels that intergenerational activities and interactions are an important part of the quality of life for many elderly individuals, especially those living in a residential setting. She believes that children benefit from, at a young age, the participation in intergenerational activities and interactions because it promotes a better understanding and respect for aging and the aging process. Carol holds a bachelor of science in community health from Northern Illinois University and a master’s of public administration, health services management, from Roosevelt University. She is also a certified aging services professional. Carol recently began pursuing her doctorate degree in human services administration and leadership from Walden University. Carol was born and raised in Illinois, and now resides there with her husband and two children.
