W O M A N T R A N S F O R M E D I hear I hear a knock at the door And my fears are evermore Moving back slowly on the floor The look upon his face Makes me want to run in haste I see I see it coming; I know it all so well The feel of his hand beating against my shell A pattern is made every time our fleshes meet He has conquered but in defeat I taste I taste the tanginess of my blood As the punches explode into a flood A storm is brewing within me I feel captured; I want to be free I cry I cry not only for me But for my daughter who see My rainbow coloured skin The cuts and bruises on my arms and chin I must I must break this cycle of pain Of horror, anxiety and strain To leave I will gain The life of peace I am sure to attain I go I go forward to the life that awaits me Never looking back to those broken promises, I only see prosperity From detachment of negativity, I now evolve The pain I once knew have dissolved Away with the abyss of hatred and fear I no longer shed a tear For what I have lost is nothing And what I have gained is everything I live By Natalie Gonsalves © 2005

About the Book
This book is unique, it provides a written emotion and allows a visual that takes the readers' mind within the expression of the poems to his/her own thoughts, ideas and experiences. The book is a compilation of poems written over a period of six years and has several theme categories. The poems are divided into divers categories to give the reader direction towards a particular feeling, giving rise to the experience itself. This book will attract anyone who has ever had an indelible emotional experience such as pain, happiness, love, depression, confusion or a state of 'non belonging'.
About the Author
Natalie Gonsalves was born and raised on which is considered the slumps of the city; Nelson Street, Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, West Indies. As a child she experienced the hardships of poverty and human abuses but like a lily she was not influenced by her surroundings but saw light at the tunnel's end and pursued it with all vigor and determination. She holds an Advanced Certificate in Business Administration at University of the West Indies (Open Campus), a BSc. in Government and International Relations and is presently pursuing her MSc. in Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad. Today, she is a self made educator and poet inspiring the lives of many and leaving a legacy for the underprivileged to follow. She combines her experiences and that of close friends and family and takes it to inspirational heights. Her flamboyant style is a representation of her never ending ability to capture an experience served on a customized platter.
