About the Book

What can a Dragon teach children about diversity? The book takes children in the book and the reader on a quest to recognize diversity. It is done through a relationship with a dragon named Dexter. Dexter wanted to play games with the children. His first attempt was a disaster but his wit eventually prevailed. Through their experiences with Dexter, the children learned valuable lessons about judging others and night time safety. At the end of the book, there are provided developmental activities. They will take the reader back to the adventures of the story. There are non-elimination games, movement activities with directions, and an action song to encourage learning. The book and learning experiences are useful and fun in the classroom or at home. Let Dexter take children on a journey of adventure in learning of diversity and safety on Halloween night.

About the Author

The author taught for 39 years in a variety of educational disciplines found in the elementary school. The stories he told, with related learning experiences, which encouraged students learning mentally, physically, and socially. He incorporated music and movement activities following the stories he created and told. This would stimulate the use of other learning styles by the student to further learning. After the story was told, children played non-elimination games, sang action songs and discussed questions related to concepts of the story and its hidden meanings. It was decided by the author that his stories and activities had great value to be shared. The best media for sharing would be in the form of a children’s book with the story and activities. Therefore, the book The Halloween Dragon was written for use by a child, parent, or teacher. The author has been recognized for his unique and innovated teaching programs. He developed and presented numerous workshops entitled “Books, Stories and Songs that Move” to elementary teachers of the classroom and physical education. His school district of 1200 teachers honored him as Teacher of the Year and presented him with the “Golden Apple” award.
