From Me to You First I’d like to say I Love You No one could ever take that away Even after everything we’ve gone through I will take that to the grave But there are some things I’d like to say That may have slipped my mind Or maybe when I thought of them It was never the right time Perhaps I was being stubborn I did take on your ways A little prideful in the end Refusing to resort back to old days Please know that I was faithful My heart and soul belonged to you I was ready to be your wife forever Despite the things that you would do In regards to the other women For the record, I knew You were never as slick as you thought With the shady things that you would do With respect to your childhood secrets I know they cause you grief But I sincerely wish That you would have told me, at least And know that it’s been painful To watch your grim demise To stare into the man I love And see darkness in his eyes About your family, I loved them Like they were my own And in case you never saw it Certain members, to me were just dead wrong More recent, our separation Still to you I was true And desired deep in my heart That you were doing the same too But our priorities are different Especially with others in your ear Telling you to do what’s wrong When the right thing to do is clear That brings us to the children Oh, how they love you so They ask me every single day Where did our Daddy go? I told you so many times But you were convinced they didn’t care Well, except our youngest at least Guess that’s why you always had him there But the girls, they cried, they knew it How your love for them was less And it hurt their souls to discover That you played Daddy to someone else Our oldest cannot comprehend it She begged you to take her to the pool But you lied and said you were busy As you sat at a random child’s cheerleading school It hurts more than what you’ve done to me To see our children cry And ask me time and time again Why did Daddy lie These are answers I don’t have So I just share the truth That Daddy’s mind won’t let him care And there is nothing we can do We have to pray for Daddy And hope that one day he will see That he needs to get somebody’s help If he wants to be a good Daddy But the pain is still inside them And of course you’d never know Because while I am busy raising our kids You are steady making more Then there is our second born Who is simply terrified Thinking you are coming back Again to start a fight She asks me why you get so mean And she has plans for when you come again She tells me just like last time She will run to hide behind her bed She says “Mommy you didn’t know it But Daddy threw Sister in the kitchen Picked her up by one arm. And let her go Because he said she wasn’t listening I’m scared that he will get me next The same way he gets you Mommy I don’t want Daddy to hurt me I don’t know what to do” And her revelation cut me deep I was so angry at what you did Because you treat your bootleg family right But then come, and nearly kill your wife and kids Then we have the baby boy Who is utterly confused He asks me why you hit me And now thinks that’s the thing to do He fights with his sisters And says, “Mommy I’m like Daddy” And balls his fist to threaten me Because he thinks it’s funny Then other days he repeats Mommy, “Daddy punched me in my eye” And asks me if Daddy was being bad And randomly, starts to cry On other days he clings to me And says Mommy, you love Daddy? And my eyes water when he asks Because so much love is still inside me As of late, there’s something new he’s always at my side Protective against anyone who comes near Making sure that his defenses are on high But any time I walk away His eyes fill up with tears Because he thinks I’m leaving him And now that’s his biggest fear In short, our lives are torn apart Things will never be the same And though I know you think it’s me Your actions are to blame I know deep down that you love me But there are others you must please And as long as they have that hold on you You will disregard our family These are some things you need to know So I’ll just leave these words with you And hopefully one day down the line They will finally hit you That you had a wife who loved you Had a family that cared Two daughters who adore you And a son who can’t understand why you’re not there Perhaps you’ll get it right one day For the next set of wife and kids I just hope you remember the originals And at least acknowledge that they exist But in the end just know I’m here Quietly saying a prayer for you And hoping that you will once again Become the Man that I once knew

About the Book
Claudine Barbot has been writing poetry nearly all of her life. When her former husband joined the police force in 2005, it was no surprise that she began detailing various aspects of the job in her poetry. From this was born "From an Officer's Wife," which discusses the joys, challenges, and encounters of police officers and their families on a day to day basis. In this heartfelt book, she recounts the typical experiences of a police officer through her own eyes. She approaches the book with various elements, taking into account common reactions from citizens, officers, their families, and those who make the decisions as well. She also taps into her life with her former husband, as she opens up from a wife's perspective, reliving her fears, violent encounters, and the ruins that she and her family faced as a result of the experiences that he encountered on the job. “From an Officer’s Wife” tackles a wide range of topics often left untouched or swept under the rug in the police community, soliciting a variety of emotions from pain, anger, happiness, fear, and sadness. This book will touch the hearts of many and has something for anyone who has ever had a personal relationship with a law enforcement officer.
About the Author
Claudine Barbot, a graduate of Bowie State University, has been writing for about 18 years. Although she holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and Criminal Justice, writing has always been her number one passion. She loves to write all genres, most specifically romance, fantasy, and fiction. However, poetry is dearest to her heart. She began writing as a mere hobby, but somewhere along the way, it developed into an intense need and passion. In her very limited free time, she likes to mastermind works of art and finds herself always brainstorming her next project. She derives her inspiration from life in general, be it her children, nature, an emotional experience, or just every day occurrences. In light of this, she gives full credit to God. With Him all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). Currently, she has several completed manuscripts; one of which will be released later this year as well. When she is not writing, she is teaching full time. She has been in the field of education for seven years and has had the pleasure of working with children from pre-k to sixth grade. Outside of work and writing, she is a full time mother to three beautiful children. "From an Officer's Wife" will be her first release.
