Writer Hope Lovett finds solace in the lighthouse inn she opens that serves as a refuge for battered hearts on Cape Cod. After the tragic death of her former Navy Seal husband Curtis Lovett two years ago who supposedly drowned yet no body was ever found, Hope had to pick up the pieces of her shattered life for her and her son Taylor who misses his daddy up in heaven. Then when Hope’s best friend and confidante Dominic Whitaker moves on the island and becomes Hope’s partner, Hope finally feels her life is back on track. Together, she and Dominic reach out to those in need who seek shelter at the inn and come there to heal from the cruelty of the world. But the ugly reality follows and catches up with those on the island when a series of murders begin occurring that mirror Hope’s latest novel. As the deaths get closer Hope and Dominic realize that this is indeed more than an obsessed fan – this is personal. Now everybody is in danger, including every guest at the inn who each has a secret to hide. And everybody becomes a suspect. Now with nobody they can trust Hope and Dominic are fighting time and feelings between them that surface catching them both by surprise. But as they investigate the mystery of the mass murderer new evidence suggests that Hope’s former husband is in fact still alive as ominous notes are left behind revealing things only he could have known. Was he alive this entire time hiding and plotting the death of his beloved wife? Or could it perhaps be his ghost returning from the grave to warn them of something far greater? Or is the killer a past or present enemy with a vendetta to settle? As Hope and Dominic try to figure out what really happened two years ago along with the identity of their murderer, they discover the darkness of humans’ souls in pain and their capabilities. And the haven that Hope tried so desperately to create crumbles as the killer is closer than they realize.
