"And it could be dangerous," Sir Charles Grellier told me, looking straight into my eyes. "One of our operatives in Dubai died. He was a good man. Looked like an accident but I have my doubts. Too much of a coincidence." He glanced at his colleague as if to verify his comment. The room we were in was growing rather stuffy, in spite of the air conditioning, as he and his colleague had been talking for nearly two hours. How had I got into this situation when the man facing me was presenting a case for certain danger and maybe death? I had entered the Burlington Hotel in Aldwych, London, that afternoon little knowing what was to be presented to me. I thought I was going to be offered a British Council teaching post somewhere overseas but ....... How did I get mixed up in all this? It was that damn cruise my parents insisted I take with them. And how did I get mixed up with Sir Charles?

About the Book
All the characters in the book are fictitious but the setting is real enough. The author knows the area well having lived in the United Arab Emirates for ten years. It is an ideal place for clandestine activities to take place as it is remote and largely inhospitable. The idea of a gay hero is new and even a 'camp queen' can have heroic traits.
About the Author
Dr Smith is an academic, writer, actor and ex-politician who now lives in India where he has a small estate on the edge of the jungle. He is a keen gardener and delights in his lovely home, three dogs and an Indian family who take care of him.
