About the Book

There is nothing like getting your information first hand. Back in 1972, I unexpectedly found myself in Castros Cuba where I spent four days, before being allowed to come home. While there, I had a chance to hear in some detail from a government official about the campaign they had in place against the U.S.

As can be expected, I was skeptical, and not that concerned, about their having any hope of success. But, over the years, an objective look at the course of events in our country has made me aware of disturbing changes and trends that indicate that we are heading in the wrong direction. We seem to be abandoning all the basic principles that made us the greatest country in the world. A course correction is not going to be easy, but to do nothing is to surrender. We must act now!

About the Author

Joe Carrion was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico. His father, Rafael Carrion, from very humble beginnings went on to become the most prominent banker in the island, and well-regarded in New York, where he served as a director of The Chemical Bank. Joe graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1945. His service in the Army included more than two years in South Korea, and a year in the Panama Canal Zone where he was assigned to G-2 (Intelligence). After the Army, he pursued a career in banking that spanned more than thirty years. It was as a bank executive that he was kidnapped 1972 and was held for five days in Cuba. He retired from banking more than twenty-five years ago and has been a permanent resident of Florida for over thirty years. From the time he was a child, his father taught him to love this great country with its freedom and opportunities. But, concern over the systematic erosion of liberties we are currently seeing compelled him to write this book to add his voice to those of so many other concerned citizens... to tell of the things he heard in Cuba years ago... to convey to others the sense of urgency he feels about recapturing the individual choices that are now being taken away.
