About the Book
This book is a collection of controversial issues our nation faces today. The book offers a better understanding on alternatives to laws and policies that have poor results from well intentioned solutions. In addition, it gives the reader a different point of view. This book also has stories from my personal life, which has led to my beliefs and eventually my convictions. Some of these chapters continue the philosophies of Adam Smith and Milton Freidman in regards to the power of the free market. This book addresses problems in a more pragmatic manner on solutions based on results, not intent. I believe once people read this book they will begin their own journey to examine more aspects of their lives in regards to how government policies and laws affect their success, positively or negatively.
About the Author
Tony Villegas was born and grew up in Lansing Michigan with his four sisters and one half-brother. He lived there until he turned nineteen, when he joined the U.S. Army. While in the military, he spent time at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Fort Gordon, Georgia, Fort Ord, California, and Camp Humphreys, South Korea. After he left the military, he began his family settling in Salinas, California. There he attended Hartnell Junior College receiving his Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. During his studies at Hartnell, he learned how to speak Spanish. After graduating from Hartnell in the early 1990’s, he worked for a few employers in the construction trade, and coached football at the high school and junior college level. He eventually began work for a school district on the Central Californian coast. After leaving that job in the middle of 2005, he returned to school in the spring of 2006 at San Jose State University, and graduated with a degree in Justice Studies in May of 2007. He began teaching for a few local school districts as a substitute, and eventually enrolled in a teaching program in the spring of 2009. He currently resides in the Monterey Bay area. He has two kids. His daughter completed her second year of college, and his son joined the Navy in 2009, and is stationed on the USS Harry S. Truman. He returns to Michigan yearly to stay close with his family and friends. He loves the Monterey area due to its weather and scenery. He hopes this book will get more people involved to determine the direction our country by solving issues using more pragmatic means. He also hopes this is the first book of many.
