Bloodstone
I pulled the stone dripping wet
from a mountain stream?
a dark color green, flecked with jasper red.
Did it fall from deep in the sky
or was it spewed from an outburst
of earth's geological uprisings?
Warm to the touch, taken from cold waters
the stone seemed to throb in my hands
as if it had questions about me.
Had it been the petrified heart of a person

Joe E. Garnett retired as a graphic artist/ illustrator, but still continue to paint in both a realistic style and a Surrealistic, or abstract manner at times, at other times, he writes poetry. His poetry exists mainly as a word barrier to protect himself against a world that has gone mostly insane, or so it seems to him.
