About the Author
Sgt. Larry Smith is one of three children raised by a single parent in Indiana. After finishing high school, Larry enlisted in the Marines and later attended Ball State University. Because of nepotism and the “good old boy” system in his hometown of Muncie, Indiana in the late seventies, achieving his goal of becoming a law enforcement officer was next to impossible. Not taking no for an answer, Larry got his chance working the dangerous streets of South Florida for the next twenty-eight years. After retiring in 2008, he moved back to the Mid-West and settled in Southern Illinois where he is currently a deputy assigned to a local rural school as their School Resource Officer (S.R.O.). He is also a member of a Narcotic’s Task Force combating the methamphetamine, crack cocaine and illegal firearms epidemic.
