Stacy's Miracle

Doctor Parton finally comes in and closes the door, indicating that he has gathered all of the test results. His previously jovial manner is gone and he makes no small talk. He sits on a stool in front of Lynne and Stacy; I am standing because there are no more chairs. Wasting no time, he tells Stacy that he has a malignant Liposarcoma tumor so advanced that it will require an amputation of his leg below the knee. Just like that. We sit in attentive disbelief. He tells us that trying to save the leg would be risky, and would not leave Stacy with a usable leg because of how entwined the tumor is in his Achilles tendon and muscles. He says that because of the urgency of removing the cancer, he has scheduled the surgery for a week from Friday, nine days away.
