Giant Steps

We live in a world that loves finished products. We bask in the glory of accomplished men and we sit at the feet of conglomerate women. We are quick to ask them their methods and we obsess over attaining mastery over their techniques. But, seldom do we ask the price they had to pay to walk the depths of their chosen paths.

We jostle to position ourselves in the sun of their attention and hang on every word for Messianic revelation and yet, we forget that whomsoever the world upholds as a hero today was once an insignificant underdog with a story that merited no favour or celebration.

I think we have reached a point where practice has taken precedence over principle and success dogma has usurped the ideology of holistic prosperity.

In our rush to secure material, we have traded eternal paths for convenient passages.

In our obsession with time - a resource we can manage, but never control - we have tied our efforts to outcomes and thus made our toil a function of conditional commitment.

I put it to you today that for as long as in our interactions with others, we have a heart that is attached to particular OUTCOMES, our hearts are destined for disappointment. This is because the achievement of certain outcomes often rests on environmental factors which we cannot control. So, we tell ourselves erroneously that one is a winner because of what they have won recently.

But, the truth is that one is a winner because one is fearfully and wonderfully made. The stuff God placed inside of you changes lives on a daily basis without you even being aware of it. So, therefore you are a winner because it was encoded into your nature. It is who you are and not what you do, that should define you. What you do is merely a manifestation of that winning nature.

relative to your challenges determines whether or not you are going to overcome. We may not all win in the same race, because the areas of our gifting are different. But, we have been pre-destined to overcome anything and everything that stands in the way of accomplishing God's best for our lives.

So, my prayer is that God would open our eyes, that we may recognize the prophet who annoints kings by his humble walk rather than court the hand of a common king. I long to balance on the staff of the shaman who goes on a spirit walk, rather than rest in the hammock of a merchant whose taxes I do not pay.

Yes, my weak heart is at times drawn to envy them upon whom accolades are heaped, but until I am willing to pay the price it took for them to get where they are, I best seek to understand my own journey

better. For, it is in the forks on my own road that I will meet the prophets who will annoint my own head.
