The First Realm. 02.00hrs Friday 13th July AD 2001 EST A shooting star passed overhead; traveling on a journey that might end in a million years or tomorrow, who knew? It passed behind the rain clouds as they gathered over the US capital city below. As the first drops fell from the clouds, a young couple took refuge in an alleyway just off the main street. In the shadows, with the rattling corrugated iron above them, they kissed, out of sight from the world. A cat joined them as the drainpipes creaked, the safety of its window ledge now wet and cold. The young lovers didn’t mind sharing their space, they didn’t even notice, immersed in each other. In a break, to catch her breath, the elegant dark skinned girl from Atlanta spotted another shooting star.
‘All this sneaking around; it feels like two years.’ She jokingly jabbed him in the ribs. In response, he just held her a little more tightly. Another shooting star appeared. ‘Sean, look!’ spinning her boyfriend around to face the star. ‘Now make a wish,’ she whispered. ‘It’s bright isn’t it?’ he replied. ‘Make a wish!’ The star reduced in speed through the rain washed skyline. Instead of disappearing behind the clouds it was still visible as it approached the capital. Down and down it came, as though it were guiding itself. This was no star. The bright ball of white light descended vertically, so slowly that it appeared to hover. The couple ignored the cascade of water from the sky and stepped out into the centre of the alleyway to watch the light settle some two hundred yards away. On touching the ground, the light began to lose its brightness, becoming just an ember of what it once was. Then it slowly moved down the length of the alleyway towards the couple. ‘That wasn’t my wish,’ he expressed. ‘That isn’t a shooting star,’ she added. Transfixed by the light, even though it was still fading, the young lovers didn’t move. They could not; something was holding them there. Within the bright sphere they could see the shape of a person, a woman. However, the woman was not in the light. The light was emanating from her. Every aspect of her body glowed from her fingernails to each hair follicle. She shimmered with luminescence. Sean stared without blinking; his field of vision was trained on the woman’s curves as he followed them up and down her body. At the end of the day, he was male and she was a bare woman. On the morning of the last day in the fifth lunar cycle in the year 9436 BC the comet Wormwood, torn by gravitational forces, broke into seven pieces and impacted the surface of the First Realm, the realm of man. Mankind would persevere. This, we know from ancient texts, biblical and apocryphal writings. What is not known is who was there on that fateful day. What starts out as a political murder in Washington DC, becomes a journey to Europe and its bloody medieval past. Compelled to leave his expectant wife, Cole travels to Europe and there the government trained agent finds himself completely out of his depth. He discovers that mankind are pawns in a war, that was prophesised in an ancient Codex over 11,000 years ago, between two powerful army's; the angelic of the Seven Heavens and the Fallen, who fell from the grace of God. Within the pages of the 21 As Guardian of the First Realm - Gabriel's mission is to teach mankind that the field belongs to them, but they will have to fight for it. However, there are forces that are preventing him in his mission, but at hand is an old friend, a female angelic called Iinnad who does not follow the rules. Gabriel chooses to be Agent Cole's guide and leads him through a trail of murder, love, betrayal, revenge and sacrifice, until finally the human opens his eyes.
Born in 1966, David Sumner has spent most of his life in the south of England. Now working in the security Industry, David has worked in Engineering, British Armed Forces (TA), Royal Cayman Islands Police, Press Photography and Close Protection. He enjoys reading, traveling, studying and has spent over ten years working on the The 21st Codex Trilogy.
