Your Faith

We could grow our faith through meditating on the word, association or relationship, practical teaching, private disciplines, applying scriptures in our lives, pivotal circumstances, and personal ministry. Lets see how the above points could affect the growth of our faith.

Meditating on the word of God helps take the word of God from our eyes, ears, brain and mind right down to our heart and cause it to burn on the inside of us. Meditating on the word could be likened to a digestive tool. Just as physical food could be digested by digestive organ into smaller particles and be allowed to flow into our bloodstream to supplies our body with strength and nourishment so does the word of God digested through meditating on it, nourish our spirit and cause our trust in God to grow and be strengthened. Meditations also apply to meditating on the testimonies of fulfilled promises as well as meditating on specific promises and dreams deposited on our hearts.

The power of association also plays a part in growing up our faith. If we are always around those who are negative, those whose conduct is dominated and ruled by their physical senses, it is likely that we will be pulled toward their negativity. Remember birds of a feather flock together. Being with angry people can make you practice being angry. I am not saying that if your spouse is negative you have to pull out and back off from the one you're with. But I am talking about some of the company we may be keeping around us. However, if we have a partner who is negative and who always bring us down running away from them is not the best. Yielding to the help of the Holy Spirit as well as putting on the weapon of love and patience developed over time through intimate relationship with Christ, can win the battle.

Just as wrong association will get us into wrong habits and character, good associations will get us also into good habits and good character. Example, if you are around people of faith, it will not be long before you become one of them. It may take some time before you could lose all of your unbelieving vocabulary, which will at the same time be replaced by faith filled vocabulary. This will cause our faith to grow.

These are private spiritual disciplines we've got to engage on our own. They may be prayers, studying the Bible, alone with God in quiet time, fasting, witnessing about Christ, some personal things God may deal with us about, etc. These are spiritual gymnastics that build our faith muscles. They are some of the price we often must pay in other to soar on the wings of faith. They help cast off so many limitations to our life in the flow of the life of God and its resources.

When we begin to practice the practical truth of the Bible we will begin to experience personal victories in our living. This does not mean that when we act on the word of God that victory always comes immediately; but sometimes patience and endurance are required before the victory comes. Through this type of practice we experience God in a more intimate level thus our knowledge of God and trust in God often begin to grow.

Through pivotal circumstances our faith can also grow. Some of the pivotal circumstances could be when we begin to experience rejections/accusations, when every security holding us are showing red lights or are no longer holding, when we are experiencing loss, it could be also when we are at loss on how to go about with debts, when we are pressed all over etc.

Some pivotal circumstances often confine us into a place that we can only see God as the only alternative to put our trust in. And when we do we see God show up and each time He shows up our knowledge and trust in Him grows and strengthens.

This could be when we begin to step out of our comfort zone to step on the water. Stepping on water could take the form of starting a new thing you've never done before but you are convinced that God wants you to do it. That new thing could be accepting to serve in a particular unit of church or ministry, starting of a new ministry, carrying out a particular project, mission trips etc. An example is with Moses when God told him to go and bring the Israelites into the promise land. Moses could not at first figure out how it could be possible because of his limitations. But when he stepped out, he experienced so many miracles that caused his faith to grow.

The tools we've discussed, take our faith from the basic measure of faith to ever increasing and strong faith in God.
