Lord, please make me
A vessel for the world…
That even in the darkest moments of despair
When memories plough
The seas of my mind like reckless warriors
Make me a compass
Sailing towards dry land
Lord, steady
My vessel with courage
To endure angry waves of doubt
Keep me resolute in days grayed from pain
And on course
Towards that beacon shining
To warm the world
Lord, please prepare me
To be that unflinching shoulder
Offering comfort to those in need
Make my mind blind to bitterness
But open to the bountiful beauties of the human heart
And to remember
Despite all the frailties and imperfections of this life
Let me love without judgment
Knowing
The kindness and humanity of the world
Lord, please make me strong
To resist my vanity
To walk in my brothers' hands
And learn from my sisters' voice
That I see them - in me
And never abandon them in times of pain
But become their keeper
Accepting their failures or successes as my own
Lord, I ask you …
To make me a vessel
Built from the metal of my child's heart
Forgiving…. always
Fortified with truth
And carved
In your image
To bear witness to your message
As you make my heart
A candle for the world….
