About the Book
Every one of us at some point in our lives has had visions, goals and dreams of being somebody. Inspired by my Mom at an early age, she encouraged me to write. Poetry became my first love. People didn't understand me and I didn't care. I decided a long time ago that I would continue writing because I enjoyed writing. So, this book of poetry is mostly about who I am, what I've done, and how I perceive my understanding of God and life. I have written over a thousand poems; every poem that has been selected for this book is special to me, poems of my own personal experiences, poems of my battles and poems of my victories. God made it possible for this book. God made it possible for my life. I give Him the honor, the glory, and the praise. I am truly thankful as well as blessed. Special thanks go out to my wife Julia Anne. Thank you for all of your encouragement and all of your support. Your love has made a big difference to me in my life. I will always be grateful. I am so blessed. Thank you. To my daughter, Leah. While circumstances kept us apart for the first part of our lives, God saw fit to bring us back together. We are family. The miles between us might seem significant but know that I am here for you whenever you need me. Love - Dad And to Sarah, who held the key.
About the Author
Garnet Earl Edwards, Jr., earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia in 1984. Prior to graduating from Welch High School in the mid-1970s, he earned a football scholarship to attend WVU. Mr. Edwards became an instant track star for the Mountaineers, elevating himself to one of the nation's fastest men in the 110M high hurdles (time of 13:4 seconds) and in the 100M dash (time of 10:05 seconds). With other such accomplishments as West Virginia Track Athlete of the Year (1978 and 1979); Big East Champion; and holding several track records at WVU, Mr. Edwards was also a WVU All-American, and in 2001, he was inducted into the prestigious West Virginia University Sports Hall of Fame. Since that time, Mr. Edwards' ties have brought him back to McDowell County, West Virginia. Mr. Edwards is married to Julia Anne Harvell of Alexandria, Virginia. He has a twenty-one year old daughter, Leah Elizabeth Edwards, of Lexington, Kentucky and his wife Julia has a twenty-two year old daughter, Sarah Merchant. His parents Garnet and Luvenia Edwards, Sr. have been his biggest inspiration, molding him into the respected individual he is today. Mr. Edwards is also a Deacon in his church in Havaco, West Virginia. Special thanks to Coach Stanley Romanoski who was such a mentor for Mr. Edwards during his impressionable years at West Virginia University. Coach Romanoski was also instrumental in seeing that Mr. Edwards was nominated and inducted into the West Virginia University Sports Hall of Fame.
