About the Book

We all savor a good mystery, whether in print or on the screen.  "Torn Apart" blends a passionate forbidden affair, dual murder, unforgettable suspects, and a gritty lovalbe detective; culminating with a shocking twist.

The overwhelmingly gorgeous 18 year-old college freshman Linda Parent and her date for their recent high school prom, Jonnie Henderson, are reported missing on December 13, 1986.  Six weeks after, they are found dead on the University of Massachusetts campus in Amherst.  Linda was strangled.  Jonnie's cause of death is undetermined.  Was his death a suicide or homicide?  His wrists were slashed, yet the back of his skull revealed a deep indentation and contusiion.

Veteran homicide detective Leo Dunleavy, respected by his peers for uncovering the truth, is assigned the case.  Detective Dunleavy suspects a third party responsible for Linda and Jonnie's deaths.  The case is offically closed as a murder - suicide when public outcry and unrest prevail.  Undaunted Dunleavy keeps the investigation alive.  Follow the trail with him and be prepared for a riveting, spine-chilling climax.

About the Author

Robert S Beman, Rob, pen name James Stanley, was born a twin in Westfield, Massachusetts in 1942.  The pen name couples the middle names of Rob and his twin brother.  Rob was raised in Westfield and continures to reside there, married to his high school sweetheart and constant companion, celebrating forty-five years of a loving marriage and partnership in 2009.  The Bemans have four children, three daughters and a son, and, at last count, nine grandchildren; all residing nearby in Massachusetts.

Rob graduated magna cum laude from the school of engineering at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst in 1964.  He received a Masters in Business Administration from Western New England College in 1978, attending evening classes while employed as a financial and supply chain manager.

Rob is a frequently requested spokesperson at gatherings.  He has had a number of poems published and began to write fictional novels in his late fifties, a lifelong promise to himself.  He wrote and published his first novel "Twin Killing", a family saga of twins with radically divergent lives in 2003 set primarily in the familiar surroundings of Westfield.

Rob's second novel and first mystery, "The Word Game" chronicles protagonist Martin Nowak and his voluntary decision on Valentine's Day 1953 to disappear without a trace, leaving his wife Teresa, son Michael, and a successful managerial position.  Michael and a cohort try to uncover the truth 50 years later.

His third novel is a tender account of the lives of four inseparable childhood friends and the complications of adulthood that ultimately causes them to be "Torn Apart".  The story weaves tragedy, humor, and a torrid affair; with an unexpected ending.

All Rob's writings are dedicated to his wife Carole, his lifetime soul mate and hero.  Now retired, Rob devotes more time to his family and continues to write.
