TO WHOM WILL YOU LIKEN ME?
This is a question God asks more than once in
Isaiah. When we think of God, what do we
think of? How do we picture Him? To whom do we compare Him? Does it matter? Isn’t it ok if we all have our own little
picture of God and relate to Him in our own personal way? Does it matter how I think of Him,
just so long as I think of Him?
It
matters because how I think creates how I live.
My ideas produce my actions. How
I think of God affects everything that has to do with me: my thoughts, my actions, my desires, and my
entire life. My eternal destiny rests on
what I think about God.
There
have been many attempts to explain what God is like. Countless people have put forth countless
explanations in an effort to tell us what God is like. Many religions have been started with the
idea, expressed or implied, that here is the true understanding of God……
Everywhere we look we see the results of belief in a
false idea of what God is really like.
The implications
for understanding the truth about God are enormous. God stands accused before
the universe, and “the hour of His judgment has come”. We are called to be witnesses, for it is
written, “you are My witnesses, says God”.
Therefore we must have clear perceptions, a correct understanding
of our Heavenly Father, if we are to be His witnesses in these final days of
earth’s history.
But only God can reveal God. Only God can reveal Himself to us. Because we are sinners, our minds are twisted
and we cannot comprehend this Being we call God. So through the years God has used many
different ways to reveal Himself to us.
We need to focus our attention to how God has revealed Himself, not how
people have tried to describe Him. For
that reason we have to see how God has revealed Himself in the Scriptures. Only in the Bible are we able to get a
correct understanding of God.
In order to give us a clear picture,
He has used many different
illustrations. He has described Himself as a parent, a mate,
a sibling, a
stranger
and as a friend. He has used animals at
times to illustrate some

About the Book
Does it matter what I think of God? Whether I think He is a stern judge, taskmaster, or indulgent sugar daddy; isn't it alright just as long as I think about Him?
It matters because how I think creates how I live. My ideas produce my actions. Even if I think He does not exist, how I think of God affects everything that has to do with me. My thoughts, my actions, my desires, my eternal destiny rests on what I think about God.
To know God is to love Him. Our understanding needs to be increased so we can draw closer to Him.
This book is the result of years of study and observation. It is not an effort to be exhaustive, but to stimulate thought. The book is designed so it can be read in one sitting, but then the reader can go back to meditate on and discuss the concepts and ideas presented.
From stories and events recorded in the pages of the Bible are drawn revelations of the character of God that will lift the spirit, bringing encouragement and hope to us who often feel so separated from the life God wants us to live.
About the Author
Daniel Manzano was very privileged to grow up in a home where the lives of both parents revealed the best attributes of the character of God. The Bible was studied by his Mom and Dad, and the stories and individuals of the Bible were his constant companions from birth. But Daniel's parents didn't just talk the talk, they walked the walk - they lived the life.
