A big grouping of clouds had floated over to the window and sat directly under her friends. Sam dropped her friends and they all fell screaming for not even a second before they hit the clouds with soft thuds.
Parker's cloud floated up to Sam's window where she leaned against the ledge. Their eyes met and Parker saw all the pain she had hidden for the past year. Without thinking, Parker grabbed Sam under her arms and pulled her through the window onto his cloud. “Guys come on, hurry,” he shouted to the others behind him.
They all began to float away as Parker struggled with a very squirmy Sam. “Parker Tatum! You take me back now!” she demanded as she fought to get free, but somehow, Parker was able to hold her in place. Even with her extra strength, she couldn't even make him loosen a bit.
“No, we're leaving and your coming with us whether you want to or not,” he shouted at her, stopping the struggle and the screaming. He realized he had hurt her. “Sam, I'm sorry I yelled but.....” Parker stopped when he felt his arms free. Sam had made herself fall through the cloud and towards the ground. “SAM!” Parker turned the cloud back and went straight down to catch her just before she hit the cliffs. He grabbed her and fought hard against her struggling.
“Parker let go! I have to do this!”
“No, you don't! You have us, and we can go now and never look back.” Sam suddenly began to cry and put her face in her hands. Parker wrapped his arms around her and held her like he had so many times.
“Why can't you let me go?”
Parker looked into her scared, pain filled eyes. “Because if I let you go, then I may not ever see you again and I couldn't stand that, Sam.”
A ear-bleeding, shrieking sound came from under Parker and Sam.
“SAM! PARKER RUN!” they heard Becca wail from above. They looked down just as a giant eel like creature came out of the water and grabbed Parker's ankle, pulling him off the cloud, Sam trailing behind.

When a mysterious goblin appears to her and her friends at a school ski trip, things start to unfold. What’s worse, her best friend is taken by the goblin to a strange world and the only person who can save him is Sam. She finds out who she really is and must face her fears, be forced to get married, and save her friends before it s too late Will she get everyone home including herself, or will the evil Amon get to her first? Friendship can conquer all, but is it strong enough to defeat this king of all darkness and evil?
About the Author
S. M. Bennett is a high school student at Spring Hill High School in Spring Hill Kansas, a small town about 31 miles south of Kansas City, Kansas. She started brainstorming for Spirited Minds in late 2006, started writing in mid 2007, and had it finished in December of 2008 as a Christmas present for her Great-Grandmother, who died January 14, 2009. She spends most of her time hanging out with her friends and family around her small town or working on her sequel. In Spring Hill, she lives with her mother and father, her younger sister, and her small Yorkshire Terrier, Shelby. Also living in town, she has her mother’s parents and a great aunt living across town. She has plenty of friends supporting her and couldn’t wish for a better life.
