About the Book

 The book titled "Songs of Humanity" is the collection of the poems of Dr.Maqsood Jafri who is a well known Pakistani American. This book contains his fresh poems written in New York in the past five years. He greatly admires the democratic culture of America in these poems. These poems reflect the intence passion of the poet for humanity. We can find so many poems which teach us the lesson of human and democratic values. There are some poems portraying the deep passions of the poet for love and beauty. As a hyper sensitive poet he is engrossed by the elf of beauty. He says that he is the poet of beauty and humanity. We can divide his poems in to three types. The romantic poems, the revolutionary poems and the philosophical poems. His poetry is the blend of the Eastern passion and the Westen wisdom. In the words of the American critics Ms. Emily and Ms. Linda he is a great visionay yearning for moderate and democratic culture.

About the Author

Dr.Maqsood Jafri was born in Kashmir. His parents migrated to Pakistan. He was professor of English and American literature at post graduate level in Gordon College, an American college in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. His 12 poetry books in English, Persian and Urdu and 1o books in English on philosophy and politics have been published.He did his Masters in English literature from the Punjab University, Pakistan.He did Ph.D in English Literature from Rochville University,Texsa, USA. He also got the degree of D.Phil in Philosophy from New York. He was adviser to the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir. He is a fiery orator, passionate poet, ratioal philosopher and a principled politician. The former Prime Minister of Pakistan Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto in a letter admired his English poetry and ragarded him a man of vision. She was a great admirer of his writings. The president of Pakistan Mr.Asif Ali Zardari, in a message on the launching ceremony of his recently published book titled "The Ideals of Bhutto" praised his intellectual services for moderation as a political thinker.His English poems are published in the American literary journals. Presentlr he is settled in New York. He has been awarded international prizes for his poetry. Recently he was awarded the Presidential Literary Prize by the government of Kashmir. The Prime Minister in a special meeting arranged by the Kashmir Cultural Academy in Muzzafarabad gave him the prize.He is a liberal amd moderate thinker. He is diametrically opposed to racial discriminations and religious extremism. His writings in prose and poetry portray human universal values. He is a human Rights' Activist and preaches peace, love, justice, humanity, progression, moernity and moderation.  He is known as the Poet of Humanity.He is a philosopher poet. His message is univerasal. He has srongly criticised dictators and religious extremists.  Eventually he had to leave Pakistan and settle down in America. He has suffered at the hands of dictatorial regimes and religious maniacs. His poems are very passionate, facile, musical and lovely.
