St.Nick - A Christmas Gift
One day I awoke,
and struggled to work.
I was leaving the house
and noticed a quirk.
A Black man had opened
the trash bag I left.
Cans from previous days
were most of the fest.
My head was pounding,
but I had to go.
I started to feel guilty,
but then came the show.
We started to talk,
and I gave him a smile.
He makes no mess,
and knot’s always tied.
He’s old and strong,
tall and thin.
He moves real slow,
but he’ll give you a grin.
He drives his old truck
and makes his rounds.
I’ll miss him tomorrow
if he’s not around.
In the conversation,
he made me think.
There were so many cans.
He said "You've made my day."

About the Book
The poetry is meant to convey the authors' individual thoughts and experiences as universal in nature. Phil prefers short poems that get to the point and are easy on the attention span. He hopes this book brings laughter and tears.
About the Author
Phil Daly was born in Houston, Texas in 1951 where he went to Catholic schools and Stephen F. Austin High School. He graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in History. While learning to be a carpenter, he joined a religious commune in the 1970s and wore a turban. There he taught yoga and meditation. After retiring from that lifestyle he worked for a short while with a political consultant and later returned to remodeling houses. He co-raised a daughter who is now 26 years old and a graduate student in psychology.
