One thing that is patently clear especially in recent days is - if a thought comes into your head and you want to retain it - write it down.
As I was writing about going off to the army and my dad embracing me and kissing me on the cheek, this brought to mind an incident that happened when I was about three years old.
When I was a little guy and my parents wanted to go out to an evening affair they took me along. I remember going with my parents to visit family and friends. Usually there were other folks there with their children. We were usually put in the room where the coats and hats were placed. Needless to say this was heaven for kids two, three and four years old. I remember trying on hats and coats and making believe that I was an adult. We really had fun.
Usually we got home in the dark of night and I was usually asleep by the time we got home. I recall waking up in the morning and wondering how I got in my bed.
On a particular evening my folks were at a friend's house and I remember my dad coming into the room to get his and mother's coats. This time I was wide awake which I think surprised my dad.
He took me by the hand and walked out with me and mother's coat. Good-byes were said and we started home. I walked between my parents. Then Dad picked me up and placed me on his shoulders. This was a special treat especially since it was dark outside.
I remember turning my head to look at my mother. Suddenly a huge yellow ball appeared in the sky. I remember gripping my dad tightly around the neck and screaming out, "Daddy, Daddy, there's a big light in the sky!"

About the Book
Daddy There’s A Light in the Sky is a series of autobiographical sketches that cover a period from the early 1920’s through the early 2000’s. The sketches are not set in an orderly chronology but rather as an 85 year old man’s mind thought about them. The thoughts were often triggered by some contemporary happening. This collection of writings make entertaining reading. Growing up in a broadly diverse neighborhood gave Twyman the impetus to explore areas of his inner being which shows in his writing.
About the Author
Charles Robert Twyman is a retired teacher and school administrator. He spent 34 years as a professional educator. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Connecticut State University, a Master of Arts from the University of Connecticut, and a Master of Education and Doctor of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Much of his professional career was spent in the development of the “community school” concept. He has written op-ed pieces for the New Haven Register and has contributed to books by Harry Passow and Jean Lowe. This work is his first attempt to write outside the academic arena and is a brief look at what he experienced in the first 85 years of his life.
