Psychology--the study of the human mind--tells us a great deal about greed, conceit, and unthoughtfulness toward others. The younger brother had all of them, but he came to his senses in a far country when he came to himself. In other words, he started thinking about who he was and realized that as his father's son he was in the wrong place. He knew he should change his mind--repent--and go back to his father ready to serve even as a hired servant so long as he could be in his father's presence. He came to himself--he made a decision and then acted on that decision. He thought to himself: "I will rise and go to my father, and will say to him, 'Father, I have sinned…and am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants'." All of us in varying degrees have been in similar circumstances. Some of you reading this may be having such thoughts or are in similar situations now. If so, let me suggest that there is only one way--and the only one needed: Confession of sin and the prayer, "Make me one of your servants."

The book is in a non-denominational point of view. Sclripture readings and text reflect the author's protestant background. It is written to teach readers about dealing with problems that all believers must face. It is especially concerned to show results of recednt Biblical scholarship. It avoids terminology and vocabulary that would be a problem for readers who are not college graduates or scholars. The book is relevant to all persons who seek strength for everyday living. Ps. 1:10, Gal. 2:20, 1 Pet. 5:7.
About the Author
The author is an honor graduate of Campbell University (AA) and Wake Forest University (BA), University of North Carolina (MEd, DEd). He was awarded a Kellogg Scholarship award, State of N. C. grant, and is a member of Epsilon Pi Eta, 25 year member of Phi Delta Kappa, National Association of Secondary School Principals, PDK Ministerial Honor Society. He has 49 articles in national educational publications, 3 textbooks, is author of Biblical Truths that Live Today, has pastored several country churches and one city church, has served as visiting speaker at churches.
