About the Book

These poems were written during some adverse times in my life. Each poem reflects a different state of emotion that erupted during that time of adversity. I used writing to release my emotions that I felt were not being heard. They come from the deepest part of my soul that no one has ever really cared to explore. These poems are my reality. They are a collection of experiences that I've lived and the reasons why I am who I am. They are the Secrets of My Soul.

About the Author

Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, now a native of Jacksonville, FL. I come from a family of five, being the youngest of three and a countless amount of extended family members. I am a Filipino-American, but according to my parents, have adopted more of the "American Way." My inspiration for poetry flourished in 1992. It was sparked from the lack of support I received during an important period in my life, my teenage years. Growing up in a war zone, self defense mechanisms became an important part of survival. I became a self taught soldier. I learned most of what I know from the streets and in turn learned how to survive alone. Having grown up in such an over-protective family dynamic, I went through some life explorations that both helped and hindered my life. Through my poetry, I was able to journalize these experiences and have in turn published them into this book. These experiences that I speak of, have had a positive effect on who I have become. They have given me the strength and knowledge to have compassion for humanity. They have given me the power to see the good in all human beings no matter their history or present situation. But most of all they have given me the advantage to help make a change in the lives of many. Writing poetry is my outlet. It's my way of expressing my feelings of life as i've lived, observed and continue to explore it. If I could make a difference or inspire the life of one person through my poetry, I feel that I've accomplished an important part of my journey through life.
