Second Chance

     "Please, say something Marina, you are making me very nervous. Tell me what you think, how you feel." I felt wretched and sat huddled on the loveseat, my hair partially covered my face as I tried to make sense of what I just heard. At that moment I understood the true meaning of despair and hopelessness. After some time, I looked up to find him watching me, so I said, "I feel like my heart has been ripped out. I never would have thought that you would deceive me this way. I trusted you with my heart and you broke it with your deception. This little bombshell that you dropped has come as the biggest shock I have ever endured. I feel traumatized. I can't think straight. You were the only man I had allowed to take over my life and my heart, but you didn't feel the need to tell me you are married. It might have been easier to take if you had not told me that you loved me. It hurts so much to hear you refer to another woman as your wife, when I thought that I was the only one in your life. It hurts Jose, you know? It hurts bad."

     I began crying then, great heart wrenching sobs. He pulled me into his arms and I couldn't even ease myself away. He held me tight and stroked my hair. "Oh my love, I'm so sorry. I was hoping that our love could overcome any obstacle, but perhaps this one is too big to overcome. I can see the hurt and anger in your eyes, and I'm sorry I put it there. Please forgive me. Do you think you could give me a chance to make it up to you and show you how much I love you?"

     "Let me go Jose, I have to go and turn off the coffee maker." I said as I pushed him away and got up. I had to get away from him before I completely lost it. So, choking back the sobs, I started toward the kitchen...
