"Deep in the forest in the dark of the night,
I sneak out of my den under pale moonlight.
I explore all around while deep underground,
Other chipmunks are sleeping in their soft little mounds.
I meet many friends under the light of the moon,
Such as the Great Horned Owl and the masked raccoon.
Sweet greetings await from an albino deer,
Whose soft breath tickles the inside of my ear........"

"...He ran circles around me. He dashed here and there.
As a bear and a chipmunk we made quite a pair.
While moonbeams danced through the trees overhead,
I was glad that I didn't run back to my bed.
As unlikely friends that we may be,
Oh, that big fuzzy bear and little bitty me.
No longer did bears give me a fright,
And we became great pals on that warm summer night..."

About the Book
Sometimes those things that go bump in the night turn out to be not so frightening after all. I Think There's a Bear Out There is told by a little chipmunk that likes to sneak out of her den at night. After taking us deep into the dark forest where she greets many animal friends, the little chipmunk confronts her fears when she meets a big black bear.
This is a gentle and compassionate tale of the joys discovered between two unlikely friends.
About the Author
Trish Kirk dedicates her life to promoting kindness and compassion for animals. After a career in library services at the Appleton Public Library, Trish and her husband, Tim, retired to the Northwoods of Wisconsin where they live with their animal companions, surrounded by nature and wildlife. Trish is a member of Unitarian Universalists Animal Ministry, has volunteered for a rehabilitation and wildlife sanctuary in South Africa, and is a trained raptor rescuer for the Northwoods Wildlife Center in Minocqua, Wisconsin.
