About the Author

Dr. Lou Gonzales (aka Dr. Lou) is CEO of Little Feathers Group, a successful education and business consulting firm that assists young managers working in urban high risk schools and young business start-ups in acquiring loans, grants, school site acquisitions, and management. As a youth, Dr. Lou survived several gang-active communities in Los Angeles, California where he worked hard to balance the ethics and values of education and those of the gang culture. Even then, his skills as a writer and public speaker were apparent in the ease with which he was able to negotiate his way through several cultural and social obstacles. In 1965, educators and civic leaders alike were so impressed with Dr. Lou’s work that they offered him a small scholarship (his ticket out) to attend the local community college.

Dr. Lou then attended the University of California where he received a B.A. in English and a Masters Degree in Counseling and Psychology. His extensive work with high risk youth and education later earned him a Doctorate degree in Urban Education from Columbia Pacific University. He went on to become a consultant to federal, state and local agencies addressing issues relating to gang prevention and safe communities.

Dr. Lou has published two other books: 1)Gang-Free Zones and 2) Positive School Climate and is a sought-after speaker on topics relating to entrepreneurship, urban education, and school crime and violence. Dr. Lou is a bright, brash and witty streetwise educator who thrills at attacking today’s complacency in education and systems in honest and humorous ways. Dr. Lou is now retired and is living on a beach in an undisclosed location under an assumed name, where he is researching his next book.
