About the Book

PBY Catalina’s, B 17’s equiped with a Dutchman were the basic aircraft used by the Air Sea Rescue squadrons in the South Pacific during WWII.

Air Sea Rescue squadrons are dedicated to saving life, not taking it. We were called to recover those lost at sea or crashed in the jungle or rescuing wounded soldiers, survivors of firefights.

To accomplish our missions we needed to meet the conditions of weather climate (intense humid heat and tphoons) and gunfire from remanent Jap hold outs and Communist Chineese financed Huks. who were attempting to hi-jack the newly formed Democratic government of the Philippines?

About the Author

Grey T. Larison served in the 2nd Air Sea Rescue Squadron affectionately called the Snafu Snatchers, based on Clark Field, the Philippines, where he took part in several rescue operations. These are his and other airmen’s memoirs of sometimes very dangerous missions.

The book traces the emotional growth of a provincial country boy from upstate New York to an insightful adult who saw the ugly side of war and how lives are ended or drastically altered.

Mr. Larison had produced more than thirty environmental films, delivered thousands of lectures in public schools and written countless articles concerning the air war over the South Pacific with Japan.
