“No! Please don’t touch me! Go away!” Derby was jolted from his sleep. Dreams haunted him nightly. Dreams of a beautiful lady with long blonde hair and sky-blue eyes. She held him in her arms. But, a man in a black cloth is trying to pull him away from her and she’s fighting him. The man pulls a Blue Crystal from his pocket, touches her with it and she disappears from sight. The dreams have awakened him every night for the past week.
He rose from his make-shift bed of rags on the floor. He’s lived in a home for many years with a family that doesn’t like him. The Fagas are an unusual family. Backo, his trouble-making stepbrother, had always been very mean to him. Backo’s much fatter than Derby and wears his hair long, black, and curly. His eyes are the color of green grass. Derby had been brought to the Fagas when he was two years old. The Fagas were to keep him away from others. Derby’s been a slave to the Fagas. He’ the only one in the family who cleans, catches food in the forest, and prepares the food every night. He’s had feelings in his heart that he didn’t belong with this family. He looks different from his stepbrother. He is thin, with blonde hair and blue eyes. Derby wasn’t able to see well when he was younger, so the Fagas made him glasses out of glass rocks, tied together with vine roots. He could see much better with his makeshift glasses.

Derby is a small blonde elf with sparkling blue eyes whose kindness does not diminish the fact that his precocious nature sometimes gets the best of him. Derby knows he is different and doesn’t belong with the Fagas. It is only when Felilli visits Derby begins his adventure on finding out who he is and why he is different. The Wonder of Wizards School, an old castle turned to a magical institution, provides Derby with a home and friends he didn’t have. He gets into many adventures in which his Blue Crystal helps guide and get him out of trouble. But when one adventure ends another begins. Joining Derby on these adventures are his friends, Goffi, Merda, Ambis, and German. Veggie, his rival, continually tries to sabotage the group every chance he gets. Derby’s nemesis, Quale, a dark, evil wizard stops at nothing to try and capture Derby and his Blue Crystal.
The magical journeys of wizardry, friendship, betrayal, and intrigue have the group of friends encounter, Sami, a girl from the past, who lives in the Secret Gardens. Mischievous Cambi’s, ones that will take what is not theirs, torment Derby and his friends in the Red Leaf. The Lost Chambers have the group go back into the past to help the future. This leads them to the Picture Book, where time has stood still for hundreds of years.
