About the Author

Walter Richards

 

Walter was born on January 31st, 1917.

His mother and father were Richard and Mathilda Richards.

Walter was their third child. Walter had an older sister Winifred (known as Winnie) and a brother Norman.

Walter had a happy childhood. Born in Liverpool, England on Dombie Street.

His father Richard worked on the railroads as a train driver and his mother was a homemaker.

Walter started his first job when he was 16 years old, in a company called ‘Littlewoods’.

He also started a band, Wally Richards and his trio, which played for all the Littlewood functions. Walter was a very accomplished piano player.

Walter met Joyce Buckley when he was quite young. Walter 16 years old and Joyce 14 years old.

Joyce and Walter were married when Walter was 23 years old after being inducted into the ‘Liverpool Scottish’ Regiment in 1939 during the Second World War. Walter became a sergeant in the regiment.

Walter had an active form of duty during the war, he also enjoyed entertaining with a band he formed, and this was good for him.

After the war ended in 1945, Walter had 2 children. Colin born in 1941 and Pamela born in 1944., he had a family to support. He once again joined the company ‘Littlewoods’.

The family grew with 2 more sons, David and Alan.

Walter was a very literate man and taught the children many things, including his love of books and reading.

He loved telling his children stories, he would make up wonderful fairytales for them and bedtime was always an adventure.

Walter was a wonderful man and father to his 4 children and loved by his 12 grandchildren.

Walter died in June, 1997 and is still missed very much by his loving family.
