Dad taught me algebra, scribbled on the edges of the evening news.
He taught me the end of the trail ends just beyond the next bend.
He taught me the beauty of wood- fresh cut and waiting to build a dream.
He taught me worlds are hidden between the pages of good books.
He taught me love of work you enjoy;
the secret is not what you do, but your attitude toward it.
He taught me hard times can be lived through, that life is worth the trials.
He taught me poetry and pride, and how stubbornness sometimes pays off.
He taught me to love music in many forms, and how singing lightens the load.
He taught me how to be generous always, that caring for others never ends.
And now that his body is weakening,
He’s teaching me how to meet death with strength and dignity.

About the Book
This book is a collection of poems written over the past thirty yen by my sister Donna. Many of then were written for our parents and saved by our mother. After our father died of cancer I collected the poems, and with the coaxing of family and friends, who believe they are so beautiful they should be shared, typed them for publication. The poems are divided into four categories; Our Family, On Life, Nature and Prayers. These poems attest to the beauty and strength of our parents’ character and the lessons they taught us.
