About the Book

Rough Edges is my first book of poetry in which I share some of my life experience.  There is no easy way to succeed in life.  I believe I have learned from trial, error, victory and, at times, true grit.

My strength comes from my roots, that is my immediate family my parents and brothers, as well as the “village”.  The village was, and is, all encompassing: my grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, teachers, pastors, doctors, nurses and friends.  They set the life bar high, and that was that.  It was expected that I at least reach it and surpass it if I dared.

It is funny how simple moments, words, songs, sounds and scents can conjure up a memory from my youth.  Sometimes they are happy, sometimes they are sad.   Some are filled with regret and tears, some make me dance a jig!

Writing about my past has helped me put my life in order.   I have a serious purpose of where I want to go, and better still, how I want to get there.  Putting my thoughts on paper has helped me to look at myself and the world around me.  It has encouraged me to take stock of where I am and how I can keep growing.

I firmly believe life is about growing, learning, giving and sharing.  I hope this poetry does this on a special level, for you, the Reader.
