About the Book

Recounting almost a half century of pioneering leadership in economic and community development, Dr. Wilson challenges inner city black America to move away from economic and social isolation toward a multicultural and more inclusive mainstream America. He writes, "Black people must take the lead to save themselves." Black leadership, in particular, must go out front to help rebuild our inner cities to accommodate diverse economic and socially structured neighborhoods.

Throughout this book, Dr. Wilson discussses strategies and approaches to revitalizing historical black institutions, initiatives to increase education and economic opportunities and the importance of urshering in a new spirit of personal responsibility and risk taking among black families.

About the Author

CZ Wilson created landmarks in promoting and creating educational and economic opportunities for minorities in the 20th century that may well suggest challenges and directions for policy changes in the 21st century.

He developed a unique interdisciplinary formal education and pursued visions for increasing education and economic development for inner city and rural America. He became the second black person to receive a PHD in economics in the history of the University of Illinois in 1956 while serving as a research assistant to Marvin Frankel, Nobel Laureate Franco Modigliani, and Robert Eisner.
