I told you I would take a bullet for you.” She held him close for the longest time as he bled to his death. Right before he died, he grabbed her hand and told her that they would be together again. He told her that he loved her and that he would always be in her heart. As he drew his last breath, her heart was ripped in half. He lay there in the warmth of her arms, staring at her with his crystal blue eyes. The sky opened above them and it started to rain; he was gone. She was devastated; she couldn’t stop crying, and she didn’t notice when people started gathering around. All she cared about was him. His name was Joseph, and her name was Cristina Leigh.
Joseph Rigo was a senior at Kennett High School. Joseph was very athletic. During the fall he ran cross-country, during the winter he did track, and during the spring he played lacrosse. Cristina was a junior who also attended Kennett. She was the kind of girl who had the beauty and talent to be captain of the cheerleader squad or prom queen, but she wasn’t like that. Cristina cared more about doing well in school, but she knew how to have a good time when she occasionally went out. Joseph and Cristina had been dating four about a year; they had met at one of his track meets at Avon Grove High School. Cristina was wandering through the hall, looking for the bathroom when she saw him. Joseph was sitting outside the boys’ locker room, taking a short break. Cristina walked up to him and asked him if he knew where the bathroom was. He gladly told her and even decided to walk with her. Joseph waited for her near the big windows that overlooked the football field. When Cristina came out, she walked up to him and started talking with him. Their conversation was cut short when Joseph’s coach called him. Joseph wanted to continue talking to her, and he asked her to have dinner with him. Cristina quickly said that she would be delighted to have dinner with him, and that’s how their relationship started.
My story begins on December 8, 2006, at the Kennett High School winter dance. Joseph and Cristina were dancing to their favorite song, My Heart Will Go On (theme song from Titanic). Since this was a slow dance song, they were all over each other. To get some privacy, they would dance by the corner of the gymnasium where almost no one could see them, but occasionally someone came along and told them how cute they looked together. She had her hands around his neck and rested her head on his chest. His head was over her shoulder, whispering words of love in her ear. As they were dancing, he whispered, “Me and some friends are planning on going to my family’s house up in Philadelphia for Christmas break. I was just wondering if you wanted to come with me.” She smiled and whispered back into his ear, “I would love to.” He smiled back at her and started kissing her neck. When the dance was over around ten o’clock, they waited for everyone to leave before they left. It was freezing outside! Cristina was wearing a really beautiful dress that made her stand out among all the other girls at the dance. She was also wearing a small black sweater. As they were walking through the parking lot, Joseph said, “Do you want me to take you home?” Cristina was so cold that no words could express what she was feeling, so instead she just nodded yes. “Do need to be home right now?” Joseph asked her. Standing in front of his car, he looked at her in the eyes. “Come with me to my house,” he said. Cristina just smiled and said in response, “Sure, I’ll go.” Joseph walked her to the other side and opened the door for her. He quickly walked to the other side and opened the door. Joseph lived in the center of Kennett, really close to the High School. The wind started to pick up outside, and the clouds covered the sky to make the night look pitch black. He quickly got in and locked all the doors. “What’s wrong?” Cristina asked him. John took out his car keys and started the car. “Nothing, let’s just go,” he said as he backed out of the parking space and started to drive away. When they got to his house, she immediately noticed that Joseph’s brother Chris’s truck was in the driveway. Cristina got scared and stopped Joseph before he could get out.
