About the Author
G. Stanley Okoye, M.D., Ph.D. is a neuroscientist and physician with over twenty years of experience studying and conducting research into the neurobiology of brain development, degeneration and regeneration. Dr. Okoye holds a B.Sc. in Pharmacy from the Xavier University College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences, New Orleans, Louisiana and M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey. Dr. Okoye did his internship in Medicine and Surgery and his residency in Ophthalmology at the Howard University School of Medicine and Hospital, Washington, D.C. He also did a post-graduate fellowship training in Ophthalmology at Wilmer Eye Institute of The Johns Hopkins University Medical Institutions and Hospitals in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Okoye has conducted extensive research in neuroscience, including the transplantation of genetically-engineered brain cells as vehicles to deliver substances to induce regeneration of dying brain cells and the use of a gene therapy approach to prevent cell death and functional damage in macular/retinal degeneration. Dr. Okoye has published his work in numerous peer-reviewed scientific Journals. Dr. Okoye is a devout Christian, and lives with his wife, Ifeoma Okoye, Pharm.D, R.PH, and their children, Micah, Celestina, Maureen, Maria and Rosie.
