About the Book

About the book

'MILESTONES: a development' is a collection of sensitive observations written in poetic form about family life in all its aspects, from the nature of  combining an Italian heritage with an equally rich Englishness to the joy of parenthood  and the sorrow of losing a parent. The poet  draws upon experiences in his medical training that have sought a voice of catharsis.Interspersed with fine drawings and photographs the book creates a spirited if at times thought provoking reaction to a whole host of issues that sometimes impinge upon the human condition.

About The Author

Lewis Hill was educated at St Benedict’s, Ealing in West London where he received a well rounded education and developed a sense of humour.  He went up to London University in the mid seventies to pursue a course of medical training at St Mary’s Hospital. This education as a doctor exposed him to the variety of the ‘human condition’ that both challenged and deepened his appreciation of the spiritual aspects of life. It was here that he first realized that  human nature is always standing in the need of God. He then went on to take a Masters in Psychology which gave him the excuse to peruse the pages of Freud, Jung, Adler and  Catullus.

Having studied the likes of Lucretius (for its poetry) and Russell, Hume, Paine and Locke (for their enlightenment) he developed an interest in the impact  the environment ( both internal and external) plays in human behaviour.

In the mid 80s he had several  short stories broadcast on a London-wide talk-based radio.More recently in the 90s he has contributed to five anthologies of poetry (receiving a commendation for one contribution).

His writing  has also featured in  magasines and in-house journals. This is his first book of collected works.

He has worked as a counsellor for Victim Support for twelve years, helping clients recover from the aftermath of  crimes.

A tireless fundraiser for Cancer Research he has completed numerous cycle marathons around London, abseiled off a Crystal Palace tower block and accomplished a ‘commando slide’ from the top of Twickenham stadium. He has even spent a night in Wormwood Scrubs in 2005 to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.

He is married to Fiona by whom he has two children, Adam and Rebecca, and still lives in Ealing, London.
