Alexis continues to express her creativity and God-given talent to inspire others through the medium of words. In this volume her thoughts turn to motherhood, a journey she knows well; however, knowing about motherhood and understanding it are different for understanding is often just out of reach. Mothers process their role differently, but there are some common threads that make us more alike than different. Alexis feels that wanting what's best for our children is the most common thread.
After raising her children and having a successful career in human resources, Alexis is now pursuing her interest in creative writing full-time. She focused on her goal to compile some of her original poems into a book with the publication of The Artistry of Life. In this, her second book, she looks at life standing before a different easel and a new canvas, this time to share "brushstrokes" of thought about the journey of motherhood. Her perspective, as the mother of four children, has given Alexis much insight for this book, The Artistry of Motherhood.
Alexis earned a B.S. degree in home economics at Hampton Institute, now Hampton University, in Virginia and a M.Ed. in health education from the University of Memphis. She continues to work diligently on bringing to the attention of public officials ways that educational opportunities can be improved for children awaiting adoption through legislative changes. And now that her own life has been affected by breast cancer, Alexis intends to use her experience as motivation for taking a more active role in breast cancer advocacy and education.
Alexis and her husband, Joe, reside in Wyckoff, New Jersey. She has lived in 10 states and calls both North Carolina and Virginia "home."
