About the Author
Laura Thompson is a gifted and talented poet, who has been writing since fifth grade. Inspired to write her first poem, “Maybe” after learning of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., she has been writing ever since. As a young child with no understanding of injustice, she often thought if people could just get along and respect one another, maybe the world would be a better place and no one would get hurt. She wondered why people said one thing and did another. As she continues to explore this human trait through her poetry, she delves beneath the masks people wear to uncover a better understanding of what dwells in their hearts.
Laura’s poetry found in Beneath the Mask was written out of her desire to clarify the feelings and experiences left unresolved in the hearts of those who struggle to understand themselves and where they fit in the lives of others. Life brings with it many experiences… joys, pain, love, hurt, victories, and defeats. Our encounters and struggles are as different as the meanings and lessons each experience offers.
It is through these poems that Laura hopes to express the unleashing of bottled-up fears, lost hopes, loving memories, while igniting thoughts and emotions that will serve as a dose of healing for all who read her words.
Laura’s creative nature spills over into every aspect of her life. A high school graduate with some college, she goes through life…living…trying new innovative things…educating herself through life’s experiences and hard knocks, and continues to climb mountains that may appear insurmountable to others. She has a wonderful son, a loving mother and five siblings.
Laura loves her community and has worked tirelessly in many capacities utilizing her talents to improve the conditions of those who do not realize their potential. She is an advertising executive and owns an advertising agency. Give Laura a challenge and she will dissect it and get it done. Experience is the best teacher and this book is filled with Laura’s life experiences.
