Annie’s screams brought Aaron out of a sound sleep, rushing to her side.

“Ben! Ben! No, no, stop!” she cried, flailingher hands about. “Momma, momma, please make him stop. Why don’t you love me anymore, momma?”

“Aaron, Aaron where are you?”

Aaron gathered her into his arms and cried with her. Would the nightmares ever stop, he wondered?

Who was Ben? What terrible things had he done to Annie? What kind of a monster was he and what about the mother?

How could he help her overcome the anguish and terrible nightmares that plagued Annie? He wanted to tear Ben limb from limb. He wished he could kiss away the bruises, the deep scars that lay upon her mind, her heart.

“Aaron!” she called again.

“I’m here darling.” He whispered, holding her tighter. “Hold on tight Annie.”

Had Annie been a prisoner of Ben’s? If so, how had she escaped?

He vowed no one would hurt her again.
