No wonder the Scripture extols the great and marvelous things the
Lord can do! Imagine a young boy dyslexic, color blind, incredibly
shy, not able to spell, and “no one could read his handwriting.”
Imagine the same boy becoming
storyteller with one of his books, The Divine Romance, listed as one
of three most requested books in Christian stores!** The recorder
chooses to believe God can do great and marvelous deeds (“Praise
be to the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous
deeds.”--Psalm 72:18).
Most things about Gene Edwards’ life are a paradox. How could he
attend a seminary, pastor a church, be an evangelist, author some thirty
books, plant churches throughout the world, and yet, grow up in a small
town in
world of oilfi eld roughnecks”? How could he have graduated from
college at eighteen years of age with a B.S. in English literature, and in
1951, be the youngest college graduate ever to enroll at Southwestern
Baptist Theological Seminary in

school (sitting in the back of the class, never uttering a word, and hoping
no one would ask him a question) be labeled with severe “learning

Through the testimonies and encounters of seasoned people of faith, we learn about the necessity of “song” and praise; about preparation for the “soon return of Christ;” about the significance of knowing the character of God and of having respect for God. We learn, too, about the visitation of angels and of Holy Spirit; about the power of words—both ours and what the Word of God says; about doing spiritual warfare for our families; about the price, but great reward, of learning to live a surrendered life to the Giver of life; about the indispensability of prayer—and how to pray--and of setting right priorities. We learn how to handle difficult problems and how to live victorious lives under pressing circumstances. Most importantly, we learn about the love of God, His grace and compassion, and how He longs to be our All—that is, to be everything needed by each of us! What more could a person desire? About the Author
Verna-Lea Turner has a B.A. from Southern Nazarene University and two Master's Degrees, one from the University of Colorado. She has served as communication instructor on the college level, teacher of English and American literature in high schools, librarian in Brussels, Belgium, counselor and educational consultant. Her greatest satisfaction in life has come from recording the stories of people of faith. A "first-time author," she says, "Actually, I am just the recorder for other people." She lives part time in the mountains of Colorado and the rest of her time in Bakersfield, California.
