About the Book

    Move Mountain examines the constructs of race, class and gender within Buffalo, New York's political, economic and social systems. This portrayal is reflective of many urban communities in America. Move Mountain gives an eye witness account of the day to day issues and concerns experienced by an increasingly growing population: African-American, middle-class, female, single parents. No matter the depth or breadth of life's situations, the women studied are trailblazers as they articulate socio-economic issues while gaining the necessary tools to ensure success. It can be a daily daunting experience as these women hold decision making positions in the workplace, attend public colleges and universities and try to balance a middle-class family lifestyle in an environment that operates at a deficit. About the Author

      Dr. Millicent Thomas is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo. She is an educator and believes that the environment definitely contributes to one's success. However, it is not the determining factor. Every trial, emotional storm and, or barrier in one's current life is to be understood as a stepping stone towards a better future.  Dr. Thomas is the recipient of several accolades. The most recent are the 2006-2007, Who's Who in America and Who's Who of American Women. Dr. Thomas is a full time faculty member and Faculty Development Administrator with the University of Phoenix-Houston, Texas campus.
