Dear Marie,
I think you should know I always follow up on my
‘heavy dates’ with a note hoping they won’t forget me
and they won’t think it was just a ‘one night stand’!
I don’t believe I’ve ever had an hour go by so fast. It
was very nice. You are more than kind and patient
to have let me share my burden with you that, by
comparison, is but little in face of what you have been
through in recent months and years. I can’t imagine
the extent to which your emotions have been tested.
You are more than courageous and your courage
shows by the way you can talk about it, yet comfort
others as you gave me comfort in our chance meeting
yesterday.
Your telephone number is on a sticker tab pasted
to my offi ce wall and I’ll remember to let your phone
ring more than four times if you don’t answer, then
leave a message at the sound of the tone!

Dear Marie,
What a sweet card. Until I read it I wasn’t sure
how you might feel about our wonderful evening
together and I am still in the clouds. As you say, it
was exciting, fun, romantic and unforgettable. I am
so glad you feel as I do. As I was opening your card
I had a sinking feeling I was about to read a ‘Dear
John’ letter, dumped while hoping! I would have been
more heartsick than you can possibly know.
Our notes must have passed each other in the
mail. I wanted to say I love you, but for reasons we
discussed I kept from saying so.
My feelings for you are running much deeper
than I imagined. I think of you when I awake in the
morning, during the night too, wishing you were with
me, so there!

Dear Marie,
These past three weeks have been the longest weeks
I’ve ever spent. I can’t possibly tell you how down I
was when you suggested we not see each other for
three weeks even though I understood. Every day
I was afraid you would decide to walk away from
our budding relationship that to me begun to be so
wonderful and fulfi lling. Had you walked away I
would have been totally devastated. When I called
you last night and you asked if I would like to come
down for a visit tomorrow afternoon I don’t think I
slept more than a wink the rest of the night. I can’t
ever recall being so excited.

About the Book
"Dear Marie" - This is the story of two people who didn't know how much they needed each other until by chance discovered they were in similar circumstances. It is a story told in letters to Marie about the wonderful things happening to two people whose emotions had been thoroughly tested. It is about fulfilling a loving relationship after what had appeared to be hopelessness and despair. Harry and Marie are octogenarians and proof positive, "it's never too late to fall in love"
About the Author
Harry Hayward - Author - Was born at Trout Creek, Northern Michigan on February 12, 1918 and grew up at Rhinelander, Wisconsin where he went to high school. His college education in 1937, 1938 and 1939 was at the University of Miami where he was awarded a football scholarship and majored in Business Administration. He was also President of his Junior Class. After which he went on to pursue a business career in the specialty paper and packaging industry, advancing to Vice President, Sales and Marketing, of a Weyerhaeuser subsidiary company. He was considered a good golfer as well as having served as President of his Longview Country Club in 1965. His work tookhim to most of the major cities in the United States and traveld to Sweden, Holland, England, Australia & New Zealand developing business and attending trade & corporate association meetings. His hobbies are hunting, fishing & golf. The caddies at the Club had names for the various members, 'long ball,' 'straightaway.' 'divot digger'. One day he asked one of them what they called him and the caddie said, 'sweet swinger.' And according to the Author said, "That was good enough for me>"
